Richey earns FCC's Save of the Year

FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Spencer Richey’s double save at New England on March 24 has been named FC Cincinnati’s Save of the Year following a weeklong contest held at fccincinnati.com. Richey’s save claimed 71% of the vote to best Tytoń’s stoppage-time denial of Gyasi Zardes at Columbus Crew SC on Aug. 25. A total of 16 saves – eight from Richey and eight from Przemyslaw Tyton – were chosen to face off in a bracket-style competition.

Following a first-half goal from Kekuta Manneh, the Orange and Blue took a 1-0 lead into halftime against the Revs. In the 61st minute, New England midfielders Carles Gil and Diego Fagundez fired shots at Richey in quick succession, however the goalkeeper was able to save both attempts and preserve FCC’s lead. FC Cincinnati went on to win the match, 2-0, and claim their first-ever away win as an MLS team.

Richey, 27, made 19 appearances and recorded a pair of shutouts for the Orange and Blue in the club’s first MLS season. The Seattle, Wash., native made his season debut in FCC’s 1-1 draw at Atlanta United FC on March 10, when FC Cincinnati recorded their first-ever MLS point. Following a back injury, Richey missed the final 12 matches of the 2019 MLS regular season.
