Academy remains unbeaten against Columbus

In the last matchday before their winter break, the FC Cincinnati Academy combined for a 1-0-1 record against Columbus Crew SC in USSF Development Academy regular-season action on Sunday, Nov.17 at the Mercy Health Training Center. The Under-17’s notched their second consecutive win, 2-1, while the Under-15’s tied 1-1 with their closest MLS Academy competition.

The U-17’s couldn’t have asked for a better start. From the right flank of the field, Will Bernhard (Cincinnati, Ohio) played a long cross to Ethan Mills (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the edge of the penalty box. Mills collected the ball, cut inside and placed a curling ball in the top right-hand corner of the goal. The rest of the first half was battled in the midfield with both sides creating opportunities. Mills doubled the lead for FCC in the 62nd minute. The midfielder dribbled the ball from outside the center circle and once again curled a shot inside the top right-hand corner. Anthony Hernandez got Columbus on the scoresheet after capitalizing off a rebounded ball in the 87th minute and the Orange and Blue finished the game with 10 men after Nathaniel Page (Springboro, Ohio) picked up his second yellow in the 90th minute.
