Sean Okoli Wins USL Golden Boot

CINCINNATI, OH --- Sean Okoli scored a goal in the final game of the regular season, putting away a penalty kick in the first half against Pittsburgh Riverhounds to lead the team to a win and claim the United Soccer League’s Golden Boot in the process.


Given to the player with the most goals scored in the league, Okoli recorded 16 goals to finish one goal ahead of New York Red Bulls II’s Brandon Allen and Jack McBean from LA Galaxy II. Allen also had a goal in club’s last fixture of the year against Charleston Battery last Sat to finish in a tie for second with McBean.


Okoli is the USL’s point leader with 35 while Allen finishes with 34. The Federal Way, WA product is starting to peak at the right time with September being his most productive month with four goals. Okoli has also logged a goal in four of the last six fixtures, including at one time, notching a goal in three consecutive matches. He is 6-for-6 in penalty kick attempts.


Portland’s Villyan Bijev was named the USL Assists Champion and Rochester Rhinos’ Tomas Gomez grabbed the Golden Gloves honor, awarded to the goalkeeper with the best goals-against average.


FCC hosts Charleston Battery in the first-round of USL playoffs this Sun., Oct. 2 at Nippert Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
