FC Cincinnati center back Matt Miazga has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 6, the league announced Monday. Additionally, Luciano Acosta was named to the Team of the Matchday Bench.

Monday’s recognition marks the first time this season Miazga has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday, the fifth time in his FC Cincinnati career.

Miazga led a Cincinnati backline which secured a third MLS clean sheet and fifth shutout across all competitions. The center back led FCC in clearances, ball actions and passes Saturday night.

Cincinnati held New York City FC to just eight shots, four on target, in the win. For the second-straight match, Miazga and the defense helped preserve a one-goal lead over the final 30-plus minutes of the match to secure victory. NYCFC managed just three of their shots after FCC took the lead in the 57th minute, with their best of the three attempts recording just a .07 xG (expected goal).

Additionally, Lucho Acosta’s naming to the Team of the Matchday bench marked his third weekly recognition of the season. Acosta scored the game-winning goal for Cincinnati for the second-straight match.

Acosta’s 57th minute goal was a historic one. With the strike, the Argentine became just the seventh player in MLS history with at least 60 goals and 80 assists in their career.

Last season, FC Cincinnati set a club-record with 40 players named to the MLS Team of the Matchday. Miazga and Acosta’s performances are the fifth and sixth recognitions of an FC Cincinnati player or coach on the weekly team this season. A full list of 2024 FC Cincinnati matchday honors:
