FC Cincinnati forward Arquimides Ordoñez has been named to a preparation camp for the Guatemalan U-20 National Team ahead of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The 23-man camp runs until May 11 in Argentina, site of this year’s U-20 World Cup.
The 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup begins May 20. Guatemala will play on the opening day of the competition against New Zealand, with La Azul y Blanco drawn in Group A also alongside the hosts Argentina and Uzbekistan.
Ordoñez was key in helping Guatemala qualify for this year’s U-20 World Cup by leading the team to the semifinals of the 2022 CONCACAF U-20 Championship last summer. Ordoñez, the only player to score in all three group stages in that event, scored five goals in six appearances and was named to the tournament’s Best XI.
Ordoñez scored his first goal for FC Cincinnati in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup against Louisville City, when his 85th minute game-winner sent the Orange and Blue through to the Round of 32 in the 1-0 win. In just three appearances for FC Cincinnati 2 in MLS NEXT Pro, Ordoñez leads the league with six goals scored.
FC Cincinnati return to TQL Stadium this Saturday, May 6 to face D.C. United. (7:30 p.m. ET | FCCincinnati.com/Tickets | MLS Season Pass | ESPN 1530 ).
