Allan Cruz, Ronald Matarrita called up to Costa Rica national team

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati midfielder Allan Cruz and defender Ronald Matarrita have been called up to the Costa Rica national team for upcoming friendly matches this month. Costa Rica will play Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 27 at Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, Los Ticos will square off with Mexico on March 30 at Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.


Cruz, 25, has earned 17 caps with Costa Rica since making his international debut on Sept. 7, 2018. The midfielder has made 36 appearances, including 29 starts, scoring eight goals and adding one assist in two seasons with the Orange and Blue.


Matarrita, 26, has made 37 appearances with the Ticos since earning his first cap on Sept. 5, 2015. Matarrita joined FC Cincinnati in the offseason when he was acquired from New York City FC on Dec. 29. The left back has made 106 appearances, including 89 starts, scoring four goals and adding 13 assists in MLS regular season matches since joining the league in 2016.


FC Cincinnati will return to the pitch for their third MLS season on Saturday, April 17, when the team opens the season on the road against Nashville SC. FCC will officially open their 2021 home slate on Sunday, May 16, when the team hosts Inter Miami CF in the inaugural match at West End Stadium in a nationally televised 4 p.m. game.
