FC CINCINNATI 2/MATCHUP NOTES
Three in a row – FC Cincinnati 2 have won three matches in a row following their 2-1 win against New York Red Bulls II Wednesday night in what has been a late season surge for the Orange and Blue. Over the current streak, the Orange and Blue have taken three points from two of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1 win over New England Revolution II and 2-1 win over the aforementioned Red Bulls II.
Orlando in October – FCC 2 will face Orlando City B on MLS NEXT Pro’s Decision Day for the third straight season when they face the Lions Sunday afternoon. Each side has picked up a win in the final day series, with FCC 2 earning a 3-1 win against OCB at TQL Stadium to clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference a season ago. It will also be just the second meeting between FCC 2 and OCB since the start of the 2024 season.
Another star performance – Ademar Chavez scored his first MLS NEXT Pro goals Wednesday night against New York Red Bulls II in what was a crucial match for the Orange and Blue. The FC Cincinnati Academy forward also tallied his first professional brace, scoring five minutes into the second half with a brilliant individual effort to secure the three points. It is the second consecutive matchday that a current or former academy player has tallied a brace (Stefan Chirila, Sept. 25 vs Crew 2) for FCC 2.
Everything to play for – Five teams, including FCC 2, enter the final day of the regular season battling for the two remaining playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. The Orange and Blue are ninth entering the weekend, just one point behind seventh place Carolina Core FC and tied on points with eighth place Toronto FC II. FCC 2 will need both of those teams to drop points to have a shot at postseason play.
Sunday is MLS NEXT Pro’s Decision Day weekend, with all but one Eastern Conference club (Crown Legacy FC) in action at 1 p.m. ET. Below are the current standings for the five eligible sides heading into the weekend.
7. Carolina Core FC, 39 points – at Huntsville City FC
8. Toronto FC II, 38 points – at New York Red Bulls II
9. FC Cincinnati 2, 38 points – at Orlando City B
10. Atlanta United 2, 37 points – at Chattanooga FC
11. Orlando City B, 37 points – vs FC Cincinnati 2

Leading Scorer: 11 – Shakur Mohammed
Orlando City B are one of the five teams battling for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference heading into MLS NEXT Pro’s final day of the year. Only two points separate 11th place Orlando and seventh place Carolina Core FC with the Lions needing at least two points against FCC 2 to have a shot at postseason play.
The Lions have relied heavily on first team midfielder Shakur Mohammed to power the attack, with Mohammed leading the team in goals with 11. Mohammed has started in all but one match for OCB this season, matching a single season high in his three years with the club. Mohammed has played 2,264 minutes this year for the Lions, a single season high, and figures to be the focal point in an important match for OCB on Sunday.
In support of Mohammed is forward Justin Ellis, who has scored seven goals and tallied five assists. Ellis has registered assists in two of the last three for OCB but has failed to find the back of the net over his last 10 league matches.
Orlando has been strong at home this season, playing to a 7-4-2 record with more home wins than any team currently outside of a playoff position – across both conferences. However, it has been a mixed bag of results at Osceola Heritage Park as of late, as the Lions have gone 2-2-1 over their last five matches at the venue, with their last home match ending in defeat to Huntsville City FC.
