HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - On Sunday evening, FC Cincinnati 2 took on New England Revolution II at Scuadamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Orange and Blue drew with Revs II, 2-2, but picked up an additional point in a 4-1 shootout victory.
Stefan Chirila scored a brace for FC Cincinnati 2, opening the scoring with his first of two goals on the night in the 12th minute.
The Revs would equalize just three minutes later with a goal from Gabe Dahlin in the 15th minute. Just two minutes after that, New England was awarded a penalty kick, but the spot kick was missed wide.
The Revs would go ahead in the 57th minute on a Carlos Zambrano goal, before Stefan Chirila equalized late for the Orange and Blue in the 81st minute. The brace extended his team high in goals to seven for the season.
The draw brought on just the second match-deciding shootout of the season for FC Cincinnati 2. The Orange and Blue won the shootout, 4-1, to remain perfect this season in shootouts as goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek made two saves.
FC Cincinnati Academy defender LJ Born earned his first-career start for FC Cincinnati 2.
Cincinnati will travel to Illinois to face the Chicago Fire FC II on Sunday, August 2 at SeatGeek Stadium at 4 p.m. ET. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two sides. The match will stream live on OneFootball platforms and on MLSNEXTPro.com.
