FC Cincinnati 2 traveled to Toronto, Canada Friday night to take on Toronto FC II at York Lions Stadium in the second regular-season meeting between the two sides. The Young Reds drew even in this year’s series, as the Orange and Blue fell 3-1.
Toronto opened the scoring in the 11th minute as midfielder Lucas Dawson found the back of the net following a dashing run down the right wing. The Young Reds doubled their lead in the 26th minute through Atone Bossenbury and a quick counterattack following and FCC 2 set piece. Elias Khodri scored Toronto’s third of the half in the 36th minute.
Charlie Holmes scored his second of the season in the 77th minute as the Orange and Blue looked for a way back into the match. A cross into the box from the left wing by Deiver Mosquera found Holmes at the back post, largely unmarked, and the forward tapped home.
The goal marks Holmes’ first since March when he scored his first against New England Revolution II. For Mosquera, the assist is his first career helper with the Orange and Blue and his second consecutive match with a goal contribution.
The Orange and Blue return home against New England Revolution II on Sunday, July 26 at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
