Star64 to re-air first MLS home match against the Portland Timbers on Saturday

Portland Re-AIr

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati’s first-ever MLS match at Nippert Stadium will return to airwaves this Saturday, when the club’s historic nationally televised 3-0 win against the Portland Timbers from March 17, 2019 will be re-aired. The game will be televised by Star64 on Saturday, April 25 at 6 p.m., and will also be re-simulcast on fccincinnati.com within the WSTR Star64 viewing area.

The Orange and Blue recorded their first MLS win in spectacular fashion as goals from Kendall Waston, Allan Cruz and Mathieu Deplagne, combined with a Spencer Richey shutout, entertained the electric capacity crowd of 32,250 at Nippert Stadium. The sold-out match set the tone for the remainder of the 2019 MLS season, as FC Cincinnati concluded the campaign ranking third overall with an average of 27,336 fans per match.

The win against the Timbers propelled FC Cincinnati to have one of the best opening months for an expansion franchise in MLS history. The Orange and Blue’s seven points from four matches via a 2-1-1 record tied Atlanta United FC (2017) for the second-best, four-match start from an MLS expansion team.

Special edition of “The Buffalo Wings & Rings Second Screen Experience”

To help fans remember the excitement around the first-ever MLS game at Nippert Stadium, the club has booked a very special edition of “The Buffalo Wings & Rings Second Screen Experience” that will be streamed live simultaneously on the club’s Facebook page.

Joining the Voice of FCC, Tommy Gelehrter, will be members of the FS1 broadcast crew who called the game from Nippert Stadium that day: play-by-play man John Strong and sideline reporter KatieWitham.

FS1’s lead soccer announce team was in the Queen City for four days around the game, and got to experience the atmosphere and passion of the city as it introduced its team to the league. Gelehrter will walk through the weekend – and the game – with the crew and hear about their first MLS experience in Cincinnati.

Additionally, Kendall Waston (first MLS goal at Nippert Stadium) and Spencer Richey (first career shutout) will join the show to talk about their experiences and memories of not only the game, but the lead-up to kickoff and how they experienced the Queen City’s embrace of FCC.

As with other editions of “The Buffalo Wings & Rings Second Screen Experience,” surprise guests could also make an appearance and join the stream.

Re-living “The March”

Last year, ahead of the Portland game, the FC Cincinnati fans gained world-wide attention for the epic supporters march to the match.

Several thousand fans joined together as the club’s various supporters groups marched through Corryville to Nippert Stadium, arriving about an hour before kickoff to spark a vivid display of excitement and passion.

Ahead of Saturday’s re-aired broadcast, fans are encouraged to share their memories from the March 17, 2019, march that led into the Portland game.

Fans are encouraged to post photo or video memories of that day’s match – or recreations of fans’ personal marches to the match (stay-at-home style) – on social media using both #FCCincy and #AllForCincy hashtags.  All video posted with both hashtags may be used in a special retrospective video on fccincinnati.com and the club’s social profiles early next week.
