Academy Update: Oct. 2

Academy

After hosting the first-ever FC Cincinnati Academy home matches, the Orange and Blue welcome a new opponent this Saturday for another home game for the Under-15 and Under-17 teams.

This past Saturday was a historic one, and also saw the academy boys playing alongside the first team. You can read more about that day here.

As for this weekend, the FCC Academy host FC United Soccer Club on Saturday morning. Matches at the Mercy Health Training Center this fall are not open to the general public.

For the U-17s, the side are looking for a first home win after losing, 2-0, this past weekend to the Chicago Fire Academy.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the players make better decisions, especially in the last third,” U-17 Head Coach Ricardo Páez said. “I think we played good soccer in the second half last game. This week, we need to focus more on the defensive part, and offensively, to make better decisions so we can score some goals and win the game.”

For the U-15s, they beat Chicago, 1-0, last Saturday and hope to continue that momentum. Joshua Neff, their head coach, said he’s looking for constant growth and improvement to build on last match.

Neff missed the first match against the Fire in September because he was in France for coaching education, but said he was disappointed with the team’s effort in the away leg. In the home match, it was the opposite.

“(Saturday) they put everything into the game,” he said. “Everybody who was on the field, they gave 100% effort. I actually think that effort increased as the game went on, which is really good.”

Now, it’s about sustaining that.
