Takeaways from STLFC result

FC Cincinnati’s 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run ended Wednesday night when Saint Louis FC scored in second half stoppage time.


With the loss, Cincinnati’s only remaining matches are in MLS play, which resumes Saturday against LA Galaxy at Nippert Stadium.

Heartbreaking finish

After lacking offensive firepower in the first half, FC Cincinnati dictated the second half and created chance after chance. They only mustered one shot on target, however.


That eventually caught up to them in stoppage time when STLFC captain Sam Fink rifled a header into Cincinnati’s goal.


When the full-time whistle chirped minutes later, FCC players stood in shock while the World Wide Technology Sports Park atmosphere erupted.


What comes next

With the loss, play resumes Saturday night when the Orange and Blue host LA Galaxy at Nippert Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.


That will be Cincinnati’s 17th league match this season, which is officially the halfway point in the club’s inaugural season in the first division.
