Two FC Cincinnati players have earned places on Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for Round 3 of the MLS is Back Tournament. Captain and defender Kendall Waston earned a place in the Starting XI, while winger Yuya Kubo was named to the seven-player bench. Head coach Jaap Stam was named Team of the Week Coach.

FC Cincinnati claimed their second consecutive victory by defeating the New York Red Bulls, 2-0, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Wednesday evening.

Waston completed 24-of-28 passes for a passing accuracy of 85.7% and also led all players with 11 clearances. Additionally, Waston recorded four interceptions and won 75% of his duels. Waston and the Orange and Blue defense held the opposition without a goal for a second consecutive match.

Kubo scored his second goal of the season and gave FC Cincinnati their first-half lead against the New York Red Bulls. The winger now leads all FC Cincinnati players with two goals on the campaign. While he scored on his only shot of the match, Kubo was also efficient in distribution, completing 15-of-16 passes for a passing accuracy of 93.8%.

For a second consecutive match, FC Cincinnati’s setup included three center backs and two wing backs – a tactical adjustment from the setup used in the club’s first group-stage match against Columbus Crew SC. The Orange and Blue were able to stifle the Red Bulls’ attack to ensure a clean sheet victory for a second consecutive match. Stam guided the club to just their third all-time two-match winning streak and second streak of consecutive shutout victories in FCC’s brief MLS history.
