FC Cincinnati right back Alvas Powell got married this past weekend back in Portland, where Powell used to play. It came conveniently in a brief break for his national team – Jamaica – before it starts play in the Concacaf Gold Cup tonight in Kingston – the first-ever Gold Cup game in Jamaica.
Fanendo Adi was in the wedding between Alvas and Allee, and called it a wonderful experience.
“I was lucky to be here,” Adi said of the wedding. “We enjoyed the moment and I felt for him. It was very emotional to see him because I’ve known him for such a long time.
“To see him grow into becoming a man and get married and settle down, it’s going to be a good step for him.”
Adi and Powell played together with the Portland Timbers from 2015 to 2018. After Adi joined Cincinnati last July, Powell joined the Orange and Blue ahead of the inaugural MLS season.
Powell and Jamaica National Team play their opening match Monday night against Honduras.
“I know he comes back with the energy for us,” Adi said of Powell when he rejoins FCC after the Gold Cup.
