CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati has acquired goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń (pronounced SHEM-eh-slahv TEE-tahn) via a free transfer ahead of the club’s debut season in Major League Soccer. Tytoń, 31, joins FC Cincinnati after playing 13 professional seasons in the first tiers of Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.

A Poland native, Tytoń will occupy an international roster spot on Cincinnati’s 2019 MLS roster upon the receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.

“I really like the project of this FC Cincinnati team, I believe in this project and I want to be part of it,” Tytoń said. “I think it’s the right moment to start something from the beginning, that’s why I decided to come to Cincinnati. We all together will start something new.”

Tytoń comes to FC Cincinnati with significant international experience. The goalkeeper has made over 200 career appearances over the course of his 13-year professional career.

“We’re pleased to add an internationally accomplished goalkeeper in Przemysław ahead of our first season in MLS,” FC Cincinnati Head Coach Alan Koch said. “He’s someone who has thrived when playing in high pressure situations for both club and country and we believe he’ll be a great fit here in Cincinnati.”

Tytoń made his professional debut in 2005 with Gornik Leczna of Poland’s Ekstraklasa, where he made 20 appearances and recorded five clean sheets from 2005-07. The Zamość, Poland, native spent the next eight seasons in The Netherlands with Eredivisie clubs Roda JC Kerkrade (2007-12) and PSV Eindhoven (2012-15). Tytoń made a combined 53 appearances and logged 10 clean sheets over his five seasons with Roda JC Kerkrade. Following the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, Tytoń moved to Dutch power PSV Eindhoven, where he made a combined 38 appearances. With PSV, he made a combined eight UEFA Europa League appearances and recorded five shutouts from 2011-14.

In his final season as a PSV player, Tytoń spent a full-season loan at La Liga side Elche CF from 2014-15. He served as the starting goalkeeper in 35 of Elche’s 41 matches across all competitions and recorded a career-high 10 shutouts in La Liga matches. In June 2015, Tytoń signed with Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart, where he made a combined 33 appearances from 2015-16. Following his lone season in the Bundesliga, he signed with Deportivo de La Coruña, where he made a combined 16 appearances in two league seasons from 2016-18.

Tytoń has 14 career senior national team caps with Poland since making his debut in 2010, including three appearances at the 2012 UEFA European Championship, which was co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. In addition, he has played in three World Cup qualifiers and eight international friendlies.

The next time Cincinnati takes the field, it will be as MLS’ 24th team in 2019 when the club debuts in the top professional league in the U.S. and Canada. Season tickets for the 2019 season are now on sale at fccincinnati.com/tickets.
