Loan Roundup – May 14

Welshman

Emery Welshman’s first Canadian Premier League goal and Ben Lundt’s third clean sheet this season were the highlights for FC Cincinnati players on loan this past week.

Here’s a look at how the Orange and Blue players fared up north in the Can PL and the USL Championship.

Canadian Premier League update:

Emery Welshman

Position: Forward

Club: Forge FC

Result: 3-0 win against Pacific FC (May 9), 2-1 loss against Cavalry FC (May 12)

Welshman scored his first Canadian Premier League goal last week when Forge FC battered Pacific FC 3-0 at Tim Horton’s Field. The goal came from the forward’s lone shot of the game.

Forge’s second match in the week wasn’t as memorable, though. The club lost 2-1 to Calvary FC when they allowed a 95th-minute goal.

Welshman has a goal and an assist through four games this season in the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural campaign.

USL Championship update:

Ben Lundt

Position: Goalkeeper

Club: Louisville City FC

Result: 3-0 win at Birmingham Legion FC

Second-round MLS SuperDraft pick Ben Lundt highlighted FC Cincinnati’s on-loan rookies this past week when he recorded his third clean sheet of the season for Louisville City FC.

Louisville played earlier in the week and lost 3-2 at the Swope Park Rangers on Monday night, in which the German goalkeeper didn’t feature for the reigning USL Championship champions. He missed the match with an injury.

He did play Saturday, however, and produced two saves in his clean sheet. Overall, Louisville only allowed Birmingham eight shots, with two on target.

Hassan Ndam

Position: Defender

Club: Charlotte Independence

Result: 3-1 loss against Loudoun County FC

Ndam made his first professional appearance in 2019 this past weekend when he played for the Charlotte Independence. Playing in a back three, the Cameroonian produced some impressive stats despite the loss.

His passing rate was 75.9% across 90 minutes. Additionally, he produced two clearances, one tackle and one interception. He also won all three of his duels and an aerial duel.

FC Cincinnati loaned Ndam to Charlotte on May 1, which means he’s quickly integrated into his new squad.

Rashawn Dally

Position: Forward

Club: Memphis 901 FC

Result: 2-1 win at Hartford Athletic

Dally entered the match in the 69th minute and Memphis 901 FC scored the game-winning goal in the 70th. While it wasn’t his shot that sealed the win, Dally helped Memphis earn their second win this season.

Previously, the USL Championship newcomers had only won once – at the Bethlehem Steel FC earlier this season, when Dally scored the lone goal.

Tommy McCabe

Position: Midfielder

Club: North Carolina FC

Result: 2-1 loss at Ottawa Fury FC

McCabe was a substitute for North Carolina FC, who lost for only the second time this season. Once he played, the center midfielder had a 66.7% passing accuracy and won two duels.

Logan Gdula

Position: Defender

Club: Phoenix Rising FC

Result: 3-1 win against Rio Grande Valley FC

Gdula didn’t make the 18 in Phoenix Rising FC’s win. The fullback had an injury setback to start the season that he’s working back from. His first appearance for the club will be his first professional one in his career.
