Lineup Notes: Philadelphia Union

PHIvCIN Linueup

The Orange and Blue starting lineup remains unchanged entering Wednesday night’s match against the Philadelphia Union.

It is the second time this season the Orange and Blue have maintained the same Starting XI across all competitions. They utilized the same starting lineup in consecutive MLS is Back Tournament contests – against the New York Red Bulls on July 22 and against the Portland Timbers on July 28.

Tonight’s match marks the first time this season FCC have used the same Starting XI in back-to-back MLS regular-season matches, however.

There is an addition to the matchday squad, though.

New signing Álvaro Barreal is available for the first time and could make his FC Cincinnati and MLS debut. Barreal recently joined the roster – officially – after signing with the club from Velez last month.

With the winger on the bench, Wednesday night is the first time in FCC history that three players 20 or younger have made a matchday squad. Barreal, Frankie Amaya and Zico Bailey are all 20 years old.

About the absentees

Siem de Jong, Andrew Gutman and Jimmy McLaughlin are unavailable with injuries, while Nick Hagglund and Tom Pettersson are recovering from illnesses. Hagglund, who tested positive for coronavirus two weeks ago, returned to the Mercy Health Training Center on Tuesday.
