Lineup Notes: Chicago Fire FC

CIN CHI lineup notes

Head coach Jaap Stam made two changes to his starting lineup ahead of FC Cincinnati’s matchup with Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday night at Nippert Stadium.

Greg Garza and Haris Medunjanin are back in the starting XI, replacing Andrew Gutman and Yuya Kubo.

About the changes

After playing in the #HellisReal Derby last Saturday, both Garza and Medunjanin start for the first time since the MLS is Back Tournament in July.

Garza last started July 11 against Columbus Crew SC, while Medunjanin last started in FCC’s knockout stage match against the Portland Timbers on July 28.

About the absentees

Jimmy McLaughlin was excluded from the matchday squad with an injury, while Saad Abdul-Salaam is a late scratch following a knock at training on Tuesday. Spencer Richey returned to training yesterday after missing more than a month, but he is not included in the matchday squad.

Kamohelo Mokotjo remains overseas and won’t be officially added to the Cincinnati roster until he receives a work visa. Álvaro Barreal, who joined the club Wednesday afternoon, will also be added to the roster upon the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate, P1 Visa and completion of any mandatory quarantine period under local government and MLS health and safety protocol.
