FC Cincinnati Academy defender Kiano Casamalhuapa (U19) has been called into the El Salvador U20 National Team today, in preparation for the country’s upcoming Concacaf U20 Championship Qualifiers. Qualifying matches for this summer’s competition are set to begin on February 23.
Casamalhuapa and the El Salvador U20’s will appear at the Villa Selecta Residence in San Salvador, El Salvador on February 7 before playing their first qualifying match against Turks and Caicos on February 23 at the ABFA Technical Centre in Piggotts, Antigua & Barbuda.
El Salvador will look to qualify for the Concacaf U20 Championship competition from Group B, one of six groups totaling 27 men’s teams from the region. El Salvador’s Group B opponents are Antigua and Barbuda, Suriname, Guyana and Turks and Caicos. The competition’s complete qualifying schedule can be found here.
Casamalhuapa has represented El Salvador previously at the U17 level during the 2023 Concacaf U17 Championship. The midfielder made appearances in all three-group stage matches and two knockout round matches, helping El Salvador reach the Quarterfinal Round of the competition.
The winner of each group will advance to join six pre-seeded teams (United States, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic) in three groups of four, with the opportunity to advance to the knockout stages of the competition.
