Defender Joey Akpunonu has joined USL Championship side Hartford Athletic on a season-long loan, FC Cincinnati announced today.
Akpunonu, the club’s first-round selection in MLS SuperDraft 2023, made three first-team appearances in 2023 for the Orange and Blue. He went the full 90 minutes in his debut on April 26 in FCC’s 1-0 clean sheet win over Louisville City FC in the U.S. Open Cup Third Round.
Akpunonu also featured 23 times for FC Cincinnati 2, all starts, in MLS NEXT Pro last season.
