Note: The “On This Day” series recalls important dates in FC Cincinnati’s history.
2017 – Justin Hoyte signs with the Orange and Blue

After playing exclusively in England previously, Hoyte signed with FC Cincinnati one game into the 2017 USL season and was in the matchday squad four days later in a 1-0 win at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Hoyte made 69 competitive appearances for Cincinnati, which ranks fifth on the club’s list of all-time appearances. He’s also one of only six players to have spent at least three seasons with the club.

An integral part of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run, Hoyte also played in 30 USL games in 2018 when FCC won the Supporters’ Shield. When the club moved up to MLS, he made the jump, too, and made 17 MLS appearances – and even wore the captain’s armband on occasion.

After the club announced that Hoyte wouldn’t return in 2020, I wrote this story, titled “Thank you, Justin.”
