Damet

Note: The “On This Day” series recalls important dates in FC Cincinnati’s history.
2017 – Yoann Damet joins as an assistant coach

Two days after FC Cincinnati started their second USL season, Damet was announced as the club’s new assistant coach under Alan Koch. Few would have thought where his tenure in Cincy would take him.

Damet remained under Koch and eventually succeeded him when the Frenchman was named FCC’s interim head coach last May. Already the youngest member of a coaching staff in MLS, he became the youngest head coach in the league’s history when Cincinnati beat Montreal, 2-1, in Damet’s debut.

Damet returned to assistant coaching duties last August when Ron Jans was named the club’s new head coach. Damet replaced Jans, too, when the Dutchman resigned just over a month ago.

Damet is again FCC’s acting interim manager and coached the club through the first two games of the 2020 MLS regular season.

Last week, I reiterated why Damet is the right person to lead the Orange and Blue forward while the club continues its coaching search. He turned 30 last Thursday and remains the league’s youngest head coach.
