The FC Cincinnati Academy wrapped up a successful week of play in the second-ever MLS NEXT Fest in Indio, California. The seven-day event, running from December 2-8, featured some of the best players and academy programs from around the country.

Let’s take a look at how the Young Garys fared at the event.

Generation adidas Cup

The U15 and U17 teams competed in the Generation adidas Cup qualifiers which featured 58 MLS academies across the age groups.

The U15s finished 1-2-0 and concluded the trip out west with a 4-2 win against FC Dallas.

The U17s battled in close matches in their three qualifying matches including a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC. The Young Garys would best Nashville in penalties, 6-5.

MLS NEXT Fest Showcase

The U19s took part in the MLS NEXT Fest Showcase, the largest competition at this year’s event. Competition was based on division, past competition and current competitive standing.

The Young Garys showcased a strong attack scoring multiple goals in all three Showcase matches highlighted by a five-goal performance against Strikers FC on December 5.

Alen Kapic, Nick McHenry and David Garcia were all on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win over Wake FC on December 2 while Isaac Calderon netted twice against Solar FC.
