FC Cincinnati 2 and CT United FC faced off in a Thursday night fixture at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut in what was the first ever road trip for the Orange and Blue against the Coywolves. Cincinnati fell to Connecticut, 4-0.
The Coywolves scored early, finding the back of the net in the third minute through forward Barnabás Tanyi. Connecticut would score two more in the first half following Tanyi’s opener to make it 3-0 at the break. Tanyi would score in the 87th minute for his brace and close the scoring on the night to secure three points for his side.
Despite the result, the FC Cincinnati Academy had another big night. Gael Huguet made his MLS NEXT Pro debut, coming on in the 73rd minute for Camden Sphire. Steel Cook also made his league debut when he replaced Deiver Mosquera in the 81st minute. Huguet and Cook become the ninth and tenth players, respectively, from the FC Cincinnati Academy to make their pro debuts this season.
Academy goalkeeper Connor Dale set a career high for saves in a match with seven. Dale has now started three consecutive matches for FCC 2 after making five saves in his debut against New England Revolution II. Dale now has 16 saves on the year.
Cincinnati will have the weekend off before hosting Inter Miami CF II on Sunday, June 28 at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium at 6 p.m. ET. Tickets for the match are available and can be claimed through the FC Cincinnati App. The match will also stream live on OneFootball platforms and on MLSNEXTPro.com.
