FC Cincinnati 2 and Red Bull New York II faced off on Sunday evening at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Orange and Blue drew with Red Bull New York II but won the shootout 5-4, adding two points to their season total. This marks the first draw and shootout win for FCC 2 this season.
New York would get started early in the 20th minute, finding the back of the net through forward Sean Baitinger. Red Bulls II would score again in the 28th minute through Christian Gallagher, assisted by Benjamin Rodriguez, to put the score at 2-0 going into the break.
Stefan Chirila would get the first goal of the match for the Orange and Blue after Jack Mize earned a penalty kick in the 49th minute. The game would become tied after Red Bull New York’s Aimar Modelo scored an own goal to tie the game 2-2.
FC Cincinnati 2 would go on to win the shootout, 5-4, behind two saves from Fabian Mrozek. Mrozek returned to the starting roster after being absent since early this season, when FCC 2 played New York City FC II. Mrozek had three saves to end the match.
FC Cincinnati Academy defender LJ Born made his MLS NEXT Pro debut, making him the 11th academy player to make their debut this season.
Cincinnati will host Orlando City B on Sunday, July 12 at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium at 6 p.m. ET. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two sides.
