FC CINCINNATI 2 MATCHUP NOTES
First of the season – FC Cincinnati 2 earned their first win of the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro campaign Monday afternoon against New York City FC II, a 1-0 result at Scudamore Field. The first three points of the year come behind a Cheikhou Niang debut goal and the team’s first clean sheet of the season. Niang scored in the 14th minute and played 58 minutes in his debut.

Heating up offensively – The Orange and Blue registered 11 shots, seven on goal, against NYCFC II. The shots on goal total is a single match high for 2026 while the 11 total shot attempts are the second highest (15, Columbus Crew 2). Nine different FCC 2 players had a look at goal, with Niang and Leo Orejarena leading the way with two shot attempts each.

Good against the champs – In three regular season meetings against Red Bull New York II a season ago, the Orange and Blue earned eight of a possible nine points (2-0-1) against the eventual league winners. FCC 2 scored three goals in two of the three meetings and conceded more than a single goal just once. The Orange and Blue’s last defeat to RBNY II came back in March of 2024.

Almost home – Aside from Monday’s home match against NYCFC II, the Orange and Blue have been tested by a lengthy road stretch early in the year. Following Sunday night’s game against Red Bull New York, the Orange and Blue will have played four of their opening six matches of the season away from Scudamore Field. A late spring/early summer home stand is just around the corner, as FCC 2 will play eight of the next 11 at home through mid-July.

Scouting Red Bull New York II
Record: 3-0-2 (11 points)
Standings: 2nd, Eastern Conference
Last Three: 2-1 win at New England Revolution II | 1-1 draw – (4-3 SOL) – vs Philadelphia Union II | 1-1 draw – (5-4 SOL) – at New York City FC II
Head Coach: Dominik Wohlert
Leading Scorer: 3 – Roald Mitchell

Red Bull New York II, coming off an MLS NEXT Pro Cup in 2025, have picked up where they left off a season ago as one of the league’s top sides. RBNY II trail only Crown Legacy FC in the Eastern Conference Standings and have yet to suffer defeat through five games.

Up front, RBNY II deploy a number of first team forwards including Homegrown Player Roald Mitchell and Rafael Mosquera. Roald caught fire in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs where he scored five goals in four postseason matches, including one in the final, and has carried that form into 2026 where he has scored three goals in four appearances.

Mosquera finished the 2025 season with 17 goal contributions, the second most of any RBNY II player. In just two appearances in 2026, Mosquera has scored twice and added an assist. Nehuen Benedetti, RBNY II’s leading goalscorer from a season ago, has yet to find the back of the net in 2026.

Historically, RBNY II have sacrificed defending in favor of attack, but in 2026 they have been a solid defensive group. RBNY II have allowed just five goals, the sixth fewest across the league, and haven’t conceded more than two goals in any match this year.
