FC Cincinnati 2/Matchup Notes
A year for the Young Garys – FC Cincinnati Academy Goalkeeper David Paz made his MLS NEXT Pro debut midweek against New York City FC II. In the process, Paz became the 12th active academy player to make their MLS NEXT Pro debut in 2026.

Jack Mize, Noah Gassan, LJ Born, Gavin DeHart, Connor Dale, Chance Malilo, Ryan Schlotterbeck, Steel Cook, Amin Ibrahim, Santiago Sanchez and Gael Huguet are the other 11 players to make debuts from the academy this season.

The 12 debuts mark the second most by active academy players and trails only the 2022 season when the club played its first season in MLS NEXT Pro, where 17 players debuted.

Will Kuisel, Dom Lester and Camden Sphire – all of whom made debuts in previous seasons – make it 15 academy players, to date, to have earned minutes at the MLS NEXT Pro level. Sphire is tied for the fourth most appearances by any FCC 2 player this season and has played the seventh most minutes.

The matchup – Saturday’s match will be the fourth all-time meeting, and first and only meeting of the season, between FCC 2 and Carolina Core. The Orange and Blue earned three points in the first match of the all-time series with a 3-1 win on June 15, 2024. Carolina has picked up wins in matches two and three.

Last Three: 2-0 win vs. Huntsville | 3-3 draw – SOW – at Atlanta United 2 | 1-5 loss vs Chicago Fire FC II

Carolina Core FC is one of the league’s independent clubs and began play in 2024. The Foxes are coming off a 2-0 win against Huntsville City FC and will need wins through their final five matches of the season to even have a chance at postseason play.

Forward Arnaud Tattevin has kept the Foxes in the playoff conversation as he has scored 12 of the club’s 32 goals this season. Tattevin enters the weekend on a tear, having scored in four of his last six which includes a hat trick performance against Atlanta United 2 on July 31.

13 players have found the back of the net for Carolina with no other player other than Tattevin having scored more than five. Thomas Raimbault has four goals and four assists to his name and is the next most reliable scorer for the Foxes.

The Foxes have left points on the table this season as eight of their matches, tied for the most in MLS NEXT Pro, have ended in a draw and advanced to the shootout. Carolina are 3-5 in the shootout.
