FC Cincinnati 2 sign first player, Kai Thomas

FC Cincinnati 2 have signed defender Kai Thomas to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract, pending league and federation approval, the club has announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“I’m proud to introduce the first academy player to make this important step in his development, Kai Thomas,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Chris Albright. “FC Cincinnati 2 will be a vital professional platform that connects our academy to our first team. I look forward to the growth of all of our players within this new structure.”

Thomas arrived in FC Cincinnati’s Academy a year ago from South Florida. He spent time with Inter Miami CF’s Academy and Fort Lauderdale CF, then of USL League One.

“Kai is a gifted, physical center back,” said Tyrone Marshall, Head Coach of FC Cincinnati 2. “He’s grown tremendously since he arrived in our academy, and I’m excited to see him take the next step to FC Cincinnati 2.”
