Star64 to re-air 2017 home opener against Saint Louis FC on Saturday

St. Louis Re Air

CINCINNATI – A classic match from FC Cincinnati’s 2017 campaign – the club’s 4-0 win in the home opener against Saint Louis FC from April 15, 2017 – will return to television airwaves on Saturday. The game will be televised by Star64 at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, and will also be re-simulcast on fccincinnati.com within the WSTR Star64 viewing area.

The Orange and Blue made history in the first home match of the club’s second season when Senegalese striker Djiby Fall scored four goals in his first-ever match at Nippert Stadium. Djiby became the first FC Cincinnati player to score more than two goals in a match across all competitions, and remains the only player to accomplish the feat.

Having officially signed for FC Cincinnati on Feb. 13, 2017, it didn’t take long for Djiby to endear himself to the FC Cincinnati fanbase. After scoring in each of the club’s first two matches, Djiby’s four-goal match gave the striker an impressive six goals through four career matches through 61 totals days with the Orange and Blue.

Following a 1-2-0 start through three USL regular-season matches in 2017, the home opener provided an opportunity for the Orange and Blue to bounce back in front of a home crowd. FCC responded in unprecedented fashion, winning the home opener by a four-goal margin – the largest of margin of victory in club history, which was equaled on two occasions in 2018.

In a season of inconsistency, FC Cincinnati finished the 2017 USL campaign with a record of 12-10-10 (46 pts.) to earn a spot in the USL Cup Playoffs as the sixth seed. The 2017 team, however, will be remembered mainly for their historic run to the 2017 U.S. Open Cup Semifinals.

Once again, fans will be able to watch the match accompanied by “The Buffalo Wings & Rings Second Screen Experience” that will be streamed live simultaneously on the club’s Facebook page. The Voice of FCC, Tommy Gelehrter, will be joined special guests to recount experiences and memories of the rebroadcast match, as well as other behind-the-scenes stories.
