Powell sets up goal in Reggae Boyz win

After getting married this past weekend, Alvas Powell’s good luck continued Monday night when Jamaica beat Honduras, 3-2, in its first match of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. The game was played in Kingston, Jamaica, for the first time in the tournament’s history.

Powell started the match at right back and directly led to the Reggae Boyz’s second goal when he split two defenders on an impressive dribbling slalom. The sequence set Dever Orgill up to score in the 41st minute of the match. It was Orgill’s second goal in the first half.

With the win, Jamaica tops Group C through one match, with El Salvador in second after beating Curaçao.

FC Cincinnati forward Darren Mattocks was an unused sub for the Jamaicans.

Orange and Blue players featuring in the Gold Cup will continue Tuesday night when Emery Welshman and Guyana play the U.S. Men’s National Team in St. Paul, Minn. Kickoff is at 10 p.m. ET.
