Notes From IMG Academy: Day Six

BRADENTON, Fla. — Generally, the first practice after an FC Cincinnati game is called a “regen” session. Essentially, it’s a recovery and regeneration period for players who featured in the previous match. The practice is lighter, and sometimes can only include stretching.

Not Thursday.

After the 1-1 draw with the Montreal Impact on Wednesday night, FCC’s training session was a light but resembled previous sessions at IMG Academy.

“We decided we’ve got limited time,” FC Cincinnati Head Coach Alan Koch said. “It wasn’t going to just be a regen session, it was going to be lighter. The workload of the session was lighter but we actually got some constructive work done.
“Normally the day after the game you’re not working on anything truly technical or tactical. You’re just focusing on recovery. We lowered the workload from a training perspective but it was definitely more than a regen session today.”

By the time Thursday afternoon’s practice ended, the club was less than 48 hours away from its second preseason friendly: Saturday morning against the Colorado Rapids. Koch said the upcoming kickoff led to a heavier workload than what will be the norm during a normal week during the regular season.
