CINCINNATI, OH --- FC Cincinnati and Josu have mutually agreed to terminate the defender’s contract, allowing the Girona native to return to Spain.

“I’m leaving what has been my home for the last past year,” said Josu. “I want to thank everyone who has been involved in my time here, especially my teammates, the technical staff and of course, the fans. I have learned a lot and I appreciate all the opportunities that I have been given. I’m happy and proud to say that I have played for FCC.

I leave some good friends and good experiences over here,” continued Josu. “I want to wish my teammates all the best the rest of the season. Cheers Cincinnati, you will be missed.”

Josu joined FCC in 2017, posting 10 starts with three assists and was one of four players to convert a penalty kick in the historic win against Chicago Fire SC in U.S. Open Cup action. He totaled 1,062 minutes over 15 appearances and contributed three assists to the offensive effort.

“We wish Josu well as he moves on in his career,” said Head Coach Alan Koch. “We have enjoyed having him as part of the team and wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Prior to signing with FCC, Josu played with Extremadura UD in the Spanish third division and was a popular figure during a two-year stint with the Kerala Blasters in India.

Josu did not make an appearance for FCC this season.
