CINCINNATI, OH --- FC Cincinnati has added defender Josué Prieto Currais to the 2017 roster, signing the 24-year old to a one-year contract.

“Josu adds to our group, a quality left-footed player who can play in a variety of positions,” said Head Coach Alan Koch. “He is an attack-minded left back, but can also play further up the field if needed. He has had some great experiences in Spain and India, and will be a young player who will be able to come in and compete to start immediately within our group. We are excited to add him to the team and integrate him in with his new teammates.”

The 5’6” Spaniard, known professionally as “Josu” and is expected to arrive in Cincinnati next week, honed his talent as a youth in FC Barcelona’s La Masia Academy where he helped his team to three championships at the U16, U17 and U18 levels. Earning a cap with Spain’s Youth National Team, Josu left La Masia Academy to join Espanyol in Barcelona, Spain in 2011.

A native of Girona, Josu moved on to play with Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho (SJK) in Finland in 2013-14. In his rookie season, he had nine goals in 25 appearances.

Following his two-year tenure with SJK, he signed on briefly with Gornik Leczna in Poland, playing in eight matches before joining Kerala Blasters of the Indian Super League in 2015-16, where he helped the team to the league final.

Josu’s visit to the U.S. will be his second, making his initial foray into the USL in 2016 with Wilmington Hammerheads, logging four appearances to total 261 minutes.

In 2017, Josu totaled 1,217 minutes over 15 appearances with Extremedura UD in the Spanish third division.
