The United Soccer League’s newest rivalry will take shape on April 16 as FC Cincinnati hosts Eastern Conference finalist Louisville City at Nippert Stadium. The 7 p.m. kickoff will give birth to what is sure to be a fierce and bitter battle for territory.
The teams will play a total of three matches against each other – two in Cincinnati and one at Louisville Slugger Field. FC Cincinnati hosts LouCity on April 16 and July 23 – the first and final 2016 regular season meetings between the Clubs. Louisville City hosts FC Cincinnati on June 25 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
“With only 100 miles separating the two cities, much is to be played for,” said Jeff Berding, President & GM of FC Cincinnati. “In the spirit of the rivalry, the Clubs will compete for an annual trophy to crown the winner of the season series.”
But the trophy is currently without a name. A supporter-driven #NameTheCup campaign launched Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, with four tickets to one of the three head-to-head matchups going to the fan that tweets the winning name.
Here’s what you need to know:
· Tweet what you think the name of the cup should be between Jan. 27-30 with using #NameTheCup and tag both Clubs’ Twitter handles (@LouCityFC and @FCCincinnati). Entries will open at 11 a.m. on Jan. 27 and close at 11 a.m. on Jan. 30.
· Fans can vote for the top-5 entries at http://www.LouisvilleCityFC.com orhttp://www.FCCincinnati.com starting at 2 p.m. on Jan. 31. The poll will close at 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 4.
· The winning name will be announced at 1 p.m. on Feb. 5 and both Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati will have a new trophy to aim to raise in 2016.
