Examining the Academies
When FC Cincinnati launched the Academy in August, it was the club’s first step toward signing a Homegrown Player.
Starting from scratch, it was an opportunity to create a pathway between local youth players and the professional players representing the city each MLS matchday.
While the new FC Cincinnati Academy is in its infancy, there are several models – around MLS – Cincinnati can use as an influence. To help highlight those models – and educate fans about MLS academies and their long-term goals – club reporter Charlie Hatch examined four of the league’s top academies - Sporting Kansas City, the Philadelphia Union, Real Salt Lake, FC Dallas – and then looked at what FCC has done so far.
