FC Cincinnati 2 picked up their third win of preseason after defeating Xavier University, 2-0, at Mercy Health Training Center Sunday morning.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with FC Cincinnati 2 and Xavier exchanging chances early in the match. Arquimides Ordoñez nearly opened the scoring for the Orange and Blue in the 10th minute, combining with Jesús Castellano in the Xavier box but the attempt was saved and cleared.

On the opposite side of the pitch, Xavier tested the Orange and Blue with a number of first half corners and crosses into the box but goalkeeper Paul Walters and the rest of the backline kept Xavier from finding an opener.

Ordoñez would find the breakthrough for FC Cincinnati 2 in the 42nd minute, his second goal in as many games. Salim Adams played provider picking out Ordoñez with a well-weighted pass into the box where Ordoñez finished with ease.

The Orange and Blue pressed early in the second half looking for a second goal and nearly found one in the 49th minute from a set piece opportunity. Castellano fired a free kick from about 23-yards out and struck the bottom of the crossbar before Xavier cleared the danger.

FC Cincinnati 2 would find that second goal in the 65th minute and goalkeeper Hunter Morse kept Xavier from finding a way back into the match. Morse made a good save in the 67th minute and secured the shutout win in the 90th, challenging a late Xavier attack.

The Orange and Blue set their sights on their fourth preseason friendly against the University of Kentucky on Saturday March 4.
