RECAP | FC Cincinnati 2 drop season series against Inter Miami CF II in loss at DRV PNK Stadium

FC Cincinnati 2 suffered a 3-0 defeat to Inter Miami CF II Sunday night at DRV PNK Stadium. The result leaves the Eastern Conference unchanged as the Orange and Blue (7-15-4, 27 points) remain 12th while the Herons (5-16-5, 21 points) continue to occupy the 13th spot.

Tye Barton opened the scoring for Miami with his first MLS NEXT Pro goal in the 16th minute following a set-piece play. Alejandro Flores played the final ball in, earning his third assist of the year after picking out Barton with a well-controlled, first-time pass from a back post cross.

Miami doubled their lead in the 31st minute through Santiago Morales’ second goal of the season. Isaiah Boatwright assisted, bringing the Miami attack down the right wing and playing a pass back across the middle of the box where Morales collected and finished.

The Herons took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break before netting their third of the night ten minutes into the second half. Nykolas Sessock tallied his first goal of the season, curling his third shot attempt of the night past Paul Walters at the far post. Sessock’s effort would prove the final goal of the match.

FC Cincinnati Academy players Connor Stout and Ryan Bilal made their MLS NEXT Pro debut’s Sunday night, coming on in the 65th and 70th minute, respectively.

FC Cincinnati 2 play their final home match of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro regular season next Sunday, Sept. 17 against Columbus Crew 2 at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium. The match will kick off at 6 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV App.
