FC Cincinnati 2/Matchup Notes
The matchup – Sunday’s match marks the third and final meeting of the season between FC Cincinnati 2 and Philadelphia Union II. The two sides will meet at NKU Soccer Stadium for the first time since August 31, 2025, when Union II took three points in a 2-1 win. The all-time series has been a competitive one with nine of the 12 games being decided by just one goal and no match ending in a draw.
Cheikhou Niang scored in the previous meeting against Philadelphia, brining the match level in the 40th minute, with his fifth goal of the season. Niang trails Stefan Chirila (10) for goals scored but has been just as efficient in his minutes played. Niang is finding the back of the net once every 166 minutes (169 for Chirila).
Chirila scored the match winner against Carolina Core FC from the penalty spot to go along with goals from Sami Lachekar and Nathan Gray. Lachekar’s opening goal is his first for the Orange and Blue while Gray’s second of the season came in a substitute appearance.
FC Cincinnati Academy goalkeeper David Paz made his second consecutive start in goal for the Orange and Blue and finished the match with four saves.
Scouting Philadelphia Union 2
Record: 9-11-4 (33 points)
Standings: 12th Eastern Conference
Last Three: 4-2 loss vs. CT United FC | 4-3 win at New England Revolution II | 2-1 win vs FC Cincinnati 2
Head Coach: Chris Harmon (Interim)
Leading Scorer: 10 – Stas Korzeniowski
Philadelphia Union II enter Sunday’s match needing three points to stay alive in the playoff hunt. While a loss against the Orange and Blue wouldn’t mathematically eliminate Philadelphia from making it into the playoffs, it would all but end their chances at advancing to the postseason. Union II visit Cincy on the back of a 4-2 loss against CT United FC.
Forward Stas Korzeniowski will play a big role in keeping Union II in with a chance, as the forward leads the team in goals scored with 10. Korzeniowski is responsible for 10 of the club’s 30 goals this season and added two to his stat sheet against CT United.
A combined 13 goals have been scored in Union II’s last two matches with Philadelphia scoring six but conceding seven. Things have opened up for the Union II attack as of late where the team has scored two or more goals in three straight. Prior to their current run of attacking form, Philadelphia had scored multiple goals just five times this season.
